The gaps we fill are the basics not covered elsewhere.
Often what’s missing is the most basic of things. A healthy snack during the day. A geometry kit and calculator. A pair of glasses to read the white board. Winter boots to keep feet warm and dry. The fee to attend a class field trip to visit a museum.
In the reality of a city with poverty, the working poor, language barriers, and a system grappling with complex social issues, school is for so much more than just learning.
School is a safe haven. It’s stability. It’s the place where children spend most of their day. It’s their connection to the larger community.
The Education Foundation of Ottawa fills in the gaps for children that aren’t covered elsewhere – by social services or the education system. We’re here to ensure that every child’s critical needs, as identified by a school principal, can be met.
We give students the essentials they need to make anything possible. You can help.
