The Raymond Joyal Memorial Award

This award is in honour of Raymond Joyal, a former Canterbury H.S. French teacher who started his career at Canterbury in 1969 and as Vice-Principal at Canterbury H.S. retired in 1992. He had a passion for painting, but his life was dedicated to teaching.

Purpose of the Award

The Raymond Joyal Memorial Award is to be presented annually to a graduating student who has achieved a high level of creativity in the specialized arts program, demonstrating a commitment to their studies and is also enrolled in the Core and/ or Extended French Program.

Eligibility

All graduating students at Canterbury High School who are pursuing post-secondary education are eligible for this award. The recipients of this award will be proceeding to a recognized post-secondary institution and are not the recipients of any other major scholarship.

Criteria for Selection of Winner

Students can submit their names to the Canterbury Scholarship Committee for consideration, or the scholarship committee will present the names of eligible students for consideration.

Judging

No application required. OCDSB staff from Canterbury select recipient and notify the Education Foundation of Ottawa. Please speak to the Canterbury Scholarship Committee should you (or a student you know) may be interested in being considered for this award.

Award

One (1) Raymond Joyal Memorial Award of $1,500 will be given to a Canterbury High School student each year.
