The Raymond Joyal Memorial Award

This award is in honour of Raymond Joyal, former Canterbury H.S. French teacher who started his career at Canterbury in 1969 and as Vice-Principal at Canterbury H.S. retired in 1992. He had a passion for painting, but his life was dedicated to teaching.
Purpose of the Award
The Raymond Joyal Memorial Award is to be presented annually to a graduating student who has achieved a high level of creativity in the specialized arts program, demonstrating a commitment to their studies and is also enrolled in the Core and/ or Extended French Program.
Eligibility
All graduating students at Canterbury High School who are pursuing post-secondary education are eligible for this award. The recipients of this award will be proceeding to a recognized post-secondary institution and is not the recipient of any other major scholarship.
Criteria for Selection of Winner
Students can submit their names to the Canterbury Scholarship Committee for consideration or the scholarship committee will present the names of eligible students for consideration.
Judging
Eligible students will be selected annually by a committee independent of the Education Foundation of Ottawa that includes a panel of teachers and administrators from Canterbury High School. The name of the Award recipient will be forwarded to the Education Foundation of Ottawa within the application period to allow for fulfillment and processing.
Award
One (1) Raymond Joyal Memorial Award of $1,000 will be given to a Canterbury High School student each year.
Application period: Monday, April 24th, 2023 – Friday, May 26th, 2023.
