Become an EFO Champion
We have EFO “Champions” in each of our schools to help spread the word about the important work of the Education Foundation of Ottawa.
Meet Jamie Hughson, Education Foundation of Ottawa (EFO) Champion for Woodroffe High School.
1. Q – Why do you believe in the mission of the Education Foundation of Ottawa?
A – Definitely levelling the playing field has always been a key component of my involvement. Students should have access to any opportunity regardless of financial status.
2. Q – Do you have meaningful memories of a student/s being supported by the EFO?
A – Woodroffe High School, General learning Program has been able to subsidize travel to far-flung destinations that has awakened a global awareness in our students with special needs. This year we are THRILLED that Ottawa Technical Secondary School will be able to partner with us allowing us more students experiences.
3. Q – What is your call to action for others? Why do you think they should donate to/support the EFO?
A – EFO plays a part in removing a barrier ($) to opportunities for students. An EFO investment ensures wider student engagement and builds an atmosphere of equality.
Meet Rian Bayne, Education Foundation of Ottawa (EFO) Champion for Severn Avenue Public School.
1. Q – Why do you believe in the mission of the Education Foundation of Ottawa?
A – All students deserve an education and meeting their basic needs should not interfere with that fundamental right.
2. Q – Do you have meaningful memories of a student/s being supported by the EFO?
A – We had a family of students that lost everything and just knowing that we were there for them to provide food, clothing and support gave them one last thing to worry about. They were able to attend school everyday and keep that consistency in such a challenging time in their lives.
3. Q – What is your call to action? Why do you think they should donate/support the Education Foundation?
A – Supporting the Education Foundation of Ottawa means supporting our students. Its going directly to the students we see everyday and making their lives better and ensuring they can focus on learning.

2. Q – Do you have meaningful memories of a student/s being supported by the EFO?
A – I’ve seen the Foundation do so much – backpacks full of school supplies, winter clothing, a snack program, and support with camps and activities!
3. Q – What is your call to action for others? Why do you think they should donate to/support the EFO?
A – Others should support the Foundation because removing barriers for students and families is important! It means that they can focus on learning and are able to have their best school experience.
Meet Meghan Schuler, Education Foundation of Ottawa (EFO) Champion for South March Public School. We asked Meghan 2 questions about the EFO and why she chose to be an EFO Champion:
1. Q – Why do you believe in the mission of the Education Foundation of Ottawa?
A – Children’s socio-economic status is something they are born into and completely out of their control. The effects of this however highly impact their ability to succeed. I believe in doing everything we can to try to even the playing field and doing everything we can to provide the best conditions for learning for all students.
2. Q – What is your call to action for others? Why do you think they should donate to/support the EFO?
A – Every little bit helps. Boosting a child now improves their outcomes later in life. Your donation has an exponential impact.
